The new tennis courts at Melksham House were built by the Council to replace the deteriorating synthetic grass courts which had worn out. They had become uneven and slippery and had reached a stage where they were dangerous. The new courts also replace the grass courts which, although enjoyable to play on, were expensive to maintain and had limited availability - mid-May till mid-September and only in good weather. The Council has drawn up a lease for the Tennis Club, similar to that of the Football, Rugby, Cricket and Bowls Clubs, at a peppercorn rent but the Tennis Club is responsible for all of the maintenance and future-proofing of the courts and the surrounds. The Club will set up a sinking fund for day-to-day maintenance, for repainting the courts in around five years and for resurfacing them in around ten years. The money for the sinking fund will come from the subscriptions from the members and from the revenue received from public hire.
New members are always welcome and the courts can also be hired by the public on
07525 496000 or at email@example.com. The cost of hire is £6 per court per hour. Payment is required in advance and can be made by BACS to Melksham Tennis Club
(Sort Code 30-98-90, Account 17941660). This method of booking is an interim arrangement. Please note: following the Contractor's advice, play will be refused to Members and to the Public if the temperature is sufficiently high to cause any softening of the surface during the first year.
